Send Checks to the Prison
This service is completely free. However, out of the three services, this way will take the longest. All money going to the prison is subjected to a 30-day hold. You will need to make all checks and money orders out to the Vermont Department of Corrections and make sure you write the inmate’s number on the check.
Phone calls
Vermont prison inmates are not permitted to receive telephone calls. However, inmates may place collect calls to approved numbers.
When an inmate enters into Northern State Correctional Facility - Newport, he or she will have an inmate telephone account established with a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and be provided with instructions for placing collect calls to family and friends. Inmate phone lists are limited to ten (10) numbers.
Inmates are authorized to initiate collect calls to personal landline numbers and personal cell phone numbers. Before an inmate is permitted to place a collect call, he or she must submit the telephone number, name, and address for verification and activation prior to being added to the inmate's approved call list
Visitation
The easiest and fastest way to set up a visitation appointment with an inmate is to sign up at Vermont Department of Corrections website. Before you sign up for a visiting appointment, you will need to make an account first.
Anyone who has filled out a visitor’s application and had it approved may visit their inmate. Visiting hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 3 pm. Registration for visitation begins at 8:15am and ends at 2 pm. if you arrive after 2 pm, you will not be able to visit.
