Hays County Jail, located in San Marcos, Texas, is a medium-security jail that is managed by the Hays County Sheriff’s Department and houses adult inmates. This facility has 362 inmates at capacity and employs 100 jail staff.
All of the inmates serving time in the Hays County Jail are either awaiting trial or have been sentenced to a year or less by the Hays County Court System. The Hays County Criminal Justice Center houses the Hays County Sheriff’s Department, San Marcos Police Department, and the 80,000-square foot jail.

All incoming and outgoing mail is read by jail staff except if it is labeled legal mail.
All mail should contain a sender’s return address. Mail will be checked before it officially arrives to the inmate. If mail does not pass inspection, the mail will either be returned to sender, or it will be discarded.
Sending Money
If you want to send money to an inmate, you can submit money orders, cashier’s checks, and tax returns made out in the name of the inmate who is to receive the funds. The Hays County Jail will not accept cash, personal checks, or payroll checks.
Friends and family of inmates can also send money electronically without the use of money orders through JPay.com. Visit JPay.com for your free account and you can send money to your inmate any time. The money will post on their account in 24 hours or less.
Inmates may only receive money from people on their approved visitor list. If you are a friend or family member of an inmate and do not know if you are on their visitor list, please call 512-393-7800 to see if you are. If you are not, you will need to ask the inmate to put you on the list.

Inmate Visitation
All visits are non-contact and conducted through a glass partition. The inmate visiting hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM.
Inmates can have two adult visitors visit at the same time. Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by their legal guardian. Visitors are not permitted to take anything with them to the visitation area other than their ID card.
Visitors must follow a strict dress code and will be denied visitation and asked to leave if they do not. No tank tops, no revealing clothing, no miniskirts, no swimwear, no pajamas. The dress code at Hays County Jail is considered business casual.
