The original Oklahoma County Detention Center was built back in the 1850s. The original Oklahoma County Detention Center has now been made into a museum.

They have built a newer facility that has all the bells and whistles. The new Oklahoma County Detention Center went to replace the original Oklahoma County Detention Center was burnt to the ground.

The Oklahoma County Detention Center is responsible for keeping inmates who are from Oklahoma County as they are going through their trial process as well as when they serve their sentences.

Inmates in the Oklahoma County Detention Center are both male and female over the age of 18.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

If you do not live near the Oklahoma County Detention Center and you still want to converse with an inmate other than phone calls, another great way is to send them letters.

The Oklahoma County Detention Center permits inmates to receive written letters from their friends, family, and even legal counsel.

When writing an inmate, a letter, you should refrain from using any of the following:

  • Staples

  • Stickers

  • Glitter

  • Kissing the letter with lipstick

  • Misting the letter with your cologne or perfume

  • Drawing on it

  • Using crayons

Please ensure you put your return address on every letter you send.

Sending Money

If you need to put money into the inmates account at the Oklahoma County Detention Center, you can stop by the facility lobby with a money order. The money order will then be added to the inmate’s accounts within a few business days.

If you do not live near the Oklahoma County Detention Center, you can send a check or a money order to the facility and they can then add the funds to the inmate’s account. You need to ensure the inmate’s name is on the funds you are sending.

Please do not send cash.

Phone calls

When an inmate is first brought into the Oklahoma County Detention Center, they will have to fill out a phone call approval list. This list will allow them to contact you while they are in the Oklahoma County Detention Center.

If an inmate does not know your telephone number when filling out this list, it is fine, they can add you later.

Inmates in the Oklahoma County Detention Center will be permitted to use the telephone from 7 am to 7:30 pm. They will not be permitted to use the telephone during counts throughout the day.

However, inmates will only be permitted to call you collect. You, the receiver will be the one responsible for the costs associated with the call.

Inmates will be able to make 30-minute phone calls home. However, during rush time, the calls will only be approved for 10-minutes.

Visitation

Again, when an inmate is first brought into the Oklahoma County Detention Center, they will have to fill out an approved visitor list. Inmates will need your information to put you on the list.

Keep in mind that you will need a government photo identification card with you to be permitted into the visitation room.
