Built in 1993, the Billings County Jail is a medium-security detention center located in Medora, North Dakota. This county jail is operated locally by the Billings County Sheriff’s Office. The jail administrator is Captain.

The mission of Billings County Jail to provide a safe and secure confinement for lawfully committed inmates or detainees in compliance with standards set forth by the North Dakota Century Code and the North Dakota Administrative Jail Rules.

Inmates in the Billings County Jail are offered a variety of resources, programs, and services. These programs, services, and resources are put in place to help inmates rehabilitate and lessen the chance that they will end up back in jail or prison. Inmates are offered substance abuse services such as Alcoholics Anonymous; they are also offered spiritual services or counseling offered by Clergy.

All incoming mail, except privileged mail, is inspected prior to being delivered to the inmate.

Mail will also be reviewed for content and rejected if it contains any image, language, or subject matter that is determined to violate the facilities rules and policies.

Books and magazines are fine to send to inmates in the mail, so long as it is shipped in new condition and directly from the publisher or a major online retailer like Amazon.

Sending Money

Any money sent to an inmate should be in the form of a money order and made out to the inmate. The Billings County Jail does not accept personal checks or cash via mail.

Money can also be sent to an inmate via credit card. There are three options for making credit card deposits and all are through third-party vendors

Depositing funds for inmate spending accounts using a credit card can either be done at the lobby kiosk at the jail or by using the Securus Technologies.

Phone calls

Telephones are available for inmates at Billings County Jail throughout the day and evening and are subject to the housing schedules.

Incoming calls to inmates are not possible. Inmates can make outgoing calls in one of three ways:

  • Collect

  • Direct Billing to phones with established pre-paid accounts

  • Direct purchase of phone time from their jail account

Inmates are able to buy phone time in one-minute increments directly from their Jail Account if they have funds available.

If you establish a pre-paid account for an inmate with Securus, the inmate will only be able to use those pre-paid funds for calls to the phone number associated with that account. Any calls to that number from an inmate at the jail will be debited from the remaining amount in the account.

Visitation

Video visitation is available seven days per week, throughout the day and evening based on the routine schedule in each housing unit. Visitors can come to the Billings County Jail to use a visiting station in the jail lobby at no cost, or schedule a remote visit from any internet connection that is camera equipped (including Smartphones).

Remote visits are charged a fee, and all video visits are by appointment only. You can schedule an appointment online from home over the internet, from a smart phone, or from one of the visiting stations at the jail.

Visiting appointments are for 20 minutes each. Visitors should use the website to review the guidelines for remote visits.
