You should know that all incoming mail will be opened and checked in the mailroom of the Essex County Correctional Alternative Center prior to being given to the inmate it is officially addressed to.

Sending Money

Inmates may request you to deposit money onto their books for a variety of reasons. The main reason why an inmate will ask you for money is so they can purchase various items they need/want from the Essex County Correctional Alternative Center commissary or what is also known as the canteen.

The commissary sells the following items:

  • Beverages

  • Snacks

  • Clothing

  • Entertainment Items

  • Personal Hygiene Care

Phone calls

The Essex County Correctional Alternative Center is like most other county facilities in a way that they only provide inmates one way to call home. For an inmate to call home, they will have to make a collect call.

Collect calls are not always the best as they are not cost-effective, but they also cannot be received on a cell phone. For you to receive a collect call, you will need to have a landline installed in your home.

You should also remember that you, the receiver of the phone call will be the party that is in charge for paying the fee for call from the Essex County Correctional Alternative Center.

Visitation
